WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – U.S. Treasury Department plans to conduct three consecutive sales next week, offering a total of $119 billion in notes and bonds. The auction schedule begins on Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a $58 billion offering of three-year notes. This will be followed on Wednesday by $39 billion of 10-year notes, and on Thursday by $22 billion of 30-year bonds. These offerings are part of the federal government’s standard financing calendar, with their amounts aligning with the October figures outlined in Treasury’s latest quarterly refunding plan.

The newly issued three-year security is set to mature on Oct. 15, 2029. The 10-year note being auctioned reopens a 4.625% security that matures on Aug. 15, 2036. Meanwhile, the 30-year bond reopens a 5.125% security due on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopenings serve to increase the supply of securities already circulating in the market, maintaining the original coupon rate and maturity date while establishing a new issue date for the additional securities.
All three securities are scheduled for settlement on Oct. 15, according to the U.S. Treasury Department’s auction calendar. The Treasury conducts these sales based on yield and publishes results after each auction ends. Bidders submitting competitive bids specify the yield they will accept, while noncompetitive bidders agree to accept the yield determined through the auction process. Treasury notes and bonds provide fixed interest payments at regular intervals and are a key component of the U.S. government’s marketable debt.
Tri-day auction schedule confirmed by Treasury
The reopenings of the 10-year and 30-year securities on October follow similar sales in September. On Sept. 9, the Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note at a high yield of 4.834%. Investors placed bids totaling approximately $105.8 billion, resulting in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. The note features a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The upcoming October auction will add another $39 billion of this security to the market.
Similarly, on Sept. 10, the Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond at a high yield of 5.308%. The auction attracted bids totaling about $57.5 billion, with a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. This bond carries a 5.125% coupon and matures in August 2056. The October sale will reopen this security with an additional $22 billion offering, with the accepted yield, price, and bidding details to be announced after Thursday’s auction.
October issuance aligns with overall borrowing plans
These October auctions are part of a quarter in which the Treasury anticipated substantial marketable borrowing. In August, the department estimated $628 billion of net marketable borrowing by the private sector for the period from October through December. This estimate assumes an $850 billion cash balance at the end of December. The Treasury funds federal operations through the regular issuance of bills, notes, bonds, and other marketable securities. The sizes of these auctions differ based on maturity and the financing schedule published by the government.
The $119 billion total for October maintains the same auction sizes as outlined in the Treasury’s August financing plan, which listed $58 billion for three-year notes, $39 billion for 10-year notes, and $22 billion for 30-year bonds. Official results, including high yields, accepted bids, allocations, and prices, will be published after each sale, providing transparency for the securities sold during the upcoming week.
